Many people out there are not a fan of Phil Hellmuth behavior due to the fact that he is sometimes immature and juvenile. But he also has a good amount of fans that are going to enjoy his game of poker.

He was born in Madison, Wisconsin, and he was the oldest child out of 5. He dedicated his youth to school, always made his homework and studied very hard. Right after he graduated he went straight to the University of Wisconsin. There he entered the world of poker. At the beginning he started to play low stakes poker cash games. He started to perfect his skills along the way and moved on to higher stakes and attended tournaments with buy ins of around $100. During these years even professors from his school tried to play with him but they have failed to beat him. After these years of playing poker he managed to raise a pretty good sum of $20k that he later used to pay off his student loan debt.

Just like the stories of many poker players his next step was to move to Las Vegas. He took all his money and moved there. In Las Vegas he spent a lot of time playing backgammon, craps plus other casino games, so he eventually lost it all. Since he was aware that poker is his destiny, he went back to Wisconsin and rebuilds his bankroll, in order to try once again Las Vegas, and concentrate only on poker this time.

The return to Vegas was successful. He took a major decision by quitting school and going after a career of professional poker player. He, of course, didn’t receive the approval of his parents. Later on he attended a 7 Card Stud tournament at the WSOP and he managed to finish 5th.

Phil Hellmuth managed to boost a lot his confidence after he was the youngest player to win the WSOP. He had to defeat Johnny Chan at the final table.
He is now part of the Ultimate Bet online poker room, where he likes to spend many hours every day. He is also living with his wife and two children in the sunny hills’ of California.
