Layne Flack: marked by indomitable passion for the game
A small biographic description
Layne Flack will turn 40 this summer. Already, he has etched his name among all time Poker greats. For his style of clinching successive victories, he is being nicknamed Back-to-back Flack (especially 2002 WSOP successive victories). Born and brought up in Rapid City in Nevada, Layne was almost raised from nowhere to become the maestro that he is today. The guy has won a shade under 3 million USD by now and he is far from finished. He has already clinched 6 WSOP bracelets.
The big and the small ones
Any avid poker fan would realize what 6 World Series of Poker bracelets mean. Be it the Shooting Star, The Omaha Hi-Lo, The No Limit Holdem or any other smaller format, Layne has done commendably over the years.
A super mentor
Layne Flack found his initial burst from his mentor Johnny Chan. The erstwhile champion instilled the discipline of Poker in him and ensured him that his small country background would be no handicap.
Career stats
He has won WSOP in 1999 and 2008 apart from winning twice each in successive years 2002 and 2003. He also won the WPT invitational tournament and secured 8th place in the tournament of legends.
Low of life
Layne got used to drugs and was diagnosed with recreational drug use in 2004. He was somehow succored by a friend and rightly sent to rehab. Since then he has gathered his pieces and made smart progress.
Respect from contemporaries
His capacity to cash as well as make the final tables is praiseworthy. Phil Hellmuth, another great of the game has officially declared Layne to be the only player he dreads in No-Holdem. Many others try to tread a different path as soon as they find Layne in the line.
